Author's notes: Here it is, Roku's first attempt at a songfic! I tried to make it something different, and actually I'm somewhat proud of it! Please R&R!

Walking...walking...searching...searching....
Where is he? Where could he be?
There's Hilde. Maybe she'll know.
"Hi Hilde!" Spyrill waved at her friend. "Have you seen Duo anywhere?"
"Nope, sorry. But you wanna walk with me to class?"
The two talked of insignificant things as they made their way through the halls. By coincidence, the first bell rang just as they came to Spyrill's classroom door. Spyrill sighed in disappointment; she really wanted to see Duo. Well, there was always lunch time. So she walked into the room after saying sayonara to Hilde. When she set down her books and took her seat, she heard an all-too familiar voice shout, "Hey, Hilde! What's up?" Spyrill's eyes brightened up and she looked out into the hallway. She hesitated to get up at first, because after all, the bell had just rung; but her emotions got the better of her and she dashed out the room. She spotted Hilde and Duo standing at the end of the hallway and waved, hoping one of them would notice. Hilde did, but Duo was too wrapped up in conversation. Hilde pointed Spyrill out to him. He looked and she waved again. "Oh, hi," he said with a lazy wave. "So Hilde...!" He continued his conversation. Spyrill sulked back into the room teary eyed.
Why do you even bother with him?

Try again.
Walking...searching...walking...searching....
He's there! There he is!!
"Duo! Hey Duo! Wait!" Spyrill ran across the parking lot to catch up with him. School had just let out and many of the students were on their ways home. She reached him at the edge of the lot.
"Hi Spyrill. Somethin' you want?"
She realized she had nothing to say to him.
Silence. Silence is golden, but pure gold is easily ruined.
"Duo, come on! We don't wanna be late!" Hilde's voice. She stood on the sidewalk waiting for Duo to join her.
"Where are you going?" Spyrill asked Duo. She had just noticed Hilde there.
"Hilde invited me to go someplace with her and her friends. Wanna come?"
"But Hilde invited you. It would be rude of me to invite myself."
Duo shrugged. "Suit yourself." He turned away.
"Hey! Duo!" Spyrill yelled at him.
"What?" He turned around again. "You said you didn't wanna go!"
"Come here! That doesn't mean I'm finished talking to you!"
Duo rolled his eyes and walked back toward Spyrill. "Well, what is it?"
"I dunno...I just wanted to chat."
Duo shook his head and chuckled. "Well, I can't talk right now, Spyrill! I've gotta get going!" He began slowly walking backwards.
Don't leave me...don't leave me...not again...!
"But Duo! I only wanna be with you!" said Spyrill as she threw her arms around him.

"Duo! Hurry up!" shouted Hilde angrily.
"I'm coming!" Duo shouted back. He pulled himself away from Spyrill and walked off with Hilde.
"Duo!" cried Spyrill. "Don't you care?!"

"Duo...." Spyrill tried not to cry but couldn't hold back her tears. "You insensitive jerk," she muttered.

"You know I like you, Duo. Why do you avoid it? You may never tell a lie, but you can't run and hide either!"

Lunchtime.
Look over there. It's Duo and Hilde.
Jealousy.
Don't let it get to you!
Hilde left Duo alone at the table. Spyrill took her chance and approached him from behind.

"Hey Duo!"
Duo turned around. "Oh, it's just you. I thought you were Hilde again."

"Duo, do you wanna do something with me today after school?"
"I can't. Hilde wants to hang out. She's easier to talk to, you know. She actually knows how to carry a conversation."
That was mean.
"You don't have to be rude about it!" said Spyrill with her hands on her hips. "I'm just trying to strengthen our friendship by conversing and spending time together. That's usually what friends do, ya know," said Spyrill with a hint of sarcasm.
"Just between you and me, I'd rather spend my time strengthening my friendship with Hilde."

"Everything's always Hilde this, Hilde that! Why can't you pay more attention to me, huh?! "
"Why should I? I've been going out with Hilde. Didn't you know that?"
Stab. So that's what they mean by "boy knife".
"Since when?"
"I asked her out about a month ago."
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"It doesn't matter. You know now, don't you? Well, I'm gonna go look for her."
"But you just saw her!"

I know we'll go into different directions

"I can decide how often I get to see my girlfriend, ok? You don't have to make the rules for me."
"Shut up already!! Why are you being such a jerk?!" Tears quickly came to Spyrill's eyes.

"Well?! What's your problem?!"
Duo narrowed his eyes at Spyrill. "You obviously don't know what it's like when the person you're falling in love with is falling out of love with you."

"Don't you get it? I love you!" shouted Spyrill angrily; so she began her monologue, using wide gestures, "I'm constantly thinking of you, and no matter how hard I try I just can't get you out of my mind! Every time I see your face I can't help but smile, you brighten up the moment even if I've been having a rotten day! And you have no clue what it means to me, just to see you. I long to hold you, to feel your body against mine. I want you to look at me with those gorgeous eyes of yours, I want to feel your lips touching mine in a gentle kiss. But you have no idea, you just see me as a regular friend, and oh, if we can't see each other after school today it's no big deal, not like the world's gonna end -- but you ARE my world! At night I lay in my bed daydreaming about how we could be. I hold my pillow so tightly, pretending that it's you. I whisper your name and tell you I love you, and then I remember you're not really there, and I cry so hard, I can't go a night without crying over you! And I've hidden these feelings for so long, I just couldn't bear the thought that if I told you, you'd reject me, but now I don't care, I can't keep it bottled up inside me any longer! Duo, if you loved me instead, I could give you more love than you'd know what to do with!"
He's disappearing.
"Oh God, what I'd give to spend every moment of my life with you."
It's dark. But it feels so soft.
Spyrill found herself in her bed. The digital clock on her nightstand read 3:13 a.m.
A dream.
Spyrill sat up to make that lingering dream-born emotion fade away. She always woke up when she started crying in her sleep.

Lunchtime.
Look over there. It's Duo.
Emotions from last night's dream crept warily into Spyrill's mind again.
But he's alone.
"Hey Duo! What's up?"
"Not much. Have you seen Hilde?"
Here we go.
"...Spyrill? You alright?"
She couldn't bring herself to say no.
Duo nudged her playfully. "Cheer up. You look prettier when you smile."
Thoughts and emotions nagged at Spyrill's soul. She debated whether or not she should say what she had intended to, but her mouth decided before her mind. "You have a crush on Hilde, don't you?"
Duo was taken aback for a second. "You know Hilde's always been a good friend of mine, but I don't like her that way!
Spyrill was very surprised at this remark. "But...she's liked you for so long! Doesn't that matter to you?"
"Well of course it matters! But I mean, I have to be honest with myself, and...you know. Since we're friends, I really can't picture myself going out with her."
"But you won't always feel that way, will you?"
"Why, do you want me to go out with her?" That one caught Spyrill. She couldn't believe what she was saying to him. How can feelings be so opposite?
Duo wrapped his arm around her shoulders in a friendly gesture. "Don't worry, Spyrill. You're both my friends. Chill out, ok?" He grinned. He obviously could sense a hint of jealousy in her.
Please say it's not a dream, please say it's not a dream....
"Hilde! There you are!" shouted Duo, and walked behind Spyrill. She turned around. Duo handed a textbook to her. "I'd better return this to you now, 'cause I won't be able to see you at all afterschool."
"You're not?" Hilde looked disappointed.
"Nope, I've got other plans."
You see? He doesn't hang all over Hilde constantly. All in your head.
"Well, that's taken care of. Now I have other errands. See ya later, girls!"
They watched Duo walk down the hallway.
So cute...he's too good to be true...
...like a god...
...and more than just a God of Death...
